Earlier today, reports emerged suggesting that Chelsea were hopeful of recovering their key attacker Cole Palmer in time for next week’s UEFA Champions League clash against FC Barcelona.
The 23-year-old Englishman has been out of action since September due to a groin injury, and initial expectations were that he would not be available to face the Blaugrana.
However, it was reported that Chelsea were optimistic about Palmer being back in action for Barcelona’s trip to London.
Palmer ruled out with fresh injury
But in a fresh update, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Palmer will miss their next few games, albeit due to a new injury.
The England international was on the cusp of making a comeback when he suffered a broken toe at his residence, the Blues boss revealed.
“He’s probably not available for tomorrow (Saturday), for sure, Barcelona for sure and Arsenal for sure,” Maresca said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“Unfortunately, he had an accident at home where he hit his toe, but it is nothing important – but he won’t be back in the next week.”
On being asked when Palmer would return, Maresca added: “We don’t know. “[His toe] It’s fractured. The only thing we know he is not available for this week and next week.”
So far this season, Palmer has played only four matches in all competitions, managing two goals in the process.
His absence will be a big blow for Chelsea and a major boost for Barcelona as the two heavyweights face off in the Champions League next week.
The Blaugrana are in need of a victory to improve their chances of a top-eight finish, having already lost to PSG and held to a draw by Club Brugge.
