Liverpool risk matching unwanted 62-year record vs Nottingham Forest as Hugo Ekitike highlights problem

Liverpool will be looking to secure just their second Premier League win in seven matches when they host Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Reds need to start picking up more victories if they are to beat Arsenal to the title this season.

They currently sit eight points adrift of the Gunners and four behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Liverpool are expected to beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but Ekitike has spoken out on one issue they could face in the game amid an unwanted record potentially being matched.

In truth, Arne Slot would likely have much rather played out this fixture earlier in the season.

Forest were in dire form, which led to Nuno Espirito Santo eventually being sacked on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Now, veteran manager Sean Dyche has arrived at the City Ground and begun to turn things around, securing four points in their last two league outings.

Ahead of the game, speaking to Liverpool’s club media, Ekitike discussed how Dyche has improved Forest defensively.

He said: “They changed the coach and now they have been good defensively.

“They have an especially good defence, so I feel like all of the games – every game – in the Premier League is going to be tough.

“We will need to work and be ready for this weekend.”

Unwanted record Liverpool could match vs Nottingham Forest

Liverpool failing to score at Anfield is uncommon, but Forest have managed to keep them out on their home turf fairly recently.

The last meeting between these two teams on Merseyside came on September 14, 2024.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the only goal of the match, handing the Reds a rare defeat in their own backyard.

It was the only league game in which they failed to score across the entirety of 2024/25.

Should they suffer a similar fate on November 22, it will be the first time they have lost consecutive home league games against Nottingham Forest since 1963.
