Chelsea winger claim emerges following talk of interest from Leeds United and Crystal Palace

Near-perfect England, Doncaster Rovers' malaise and Sheffield Wednesday square up to Sheffield United - The YP FootballTalk Podcast

Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling is more likely to join Crystal Palace than Leeds United, a report has claimed.

Both the Whites and the Eagles have been linked with the winger, who has been frozen out of the first-team fold at Stamford Bridge.

He has not been named in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad, but was still on the club’s books when the summer transfer window closed.

The 30-year-old will most likely depart Chelsea at some point in the near future and it remains to be seen what is next for the 82-cap England international.

Raheem Sterling latest

Recent reports have credited Leeds and Palace with interest, with Chelsea said to be willing to heavily subsidise his wages.

It was claimed Sterling would prefer to stay in London and this has been supported by MOT Leeds News.

A report by the outlet has indicated a move to Selhurst Park is more likely than a switch to Elland Road.

Leeds’ ability to strike a deal has also been doubted by finance expert Dan Plumley, who told the publication: “That’s a big stretch for Leeds, I’d say. It would blow their wage bill up even if his reported wage is correct, and Chelsea even covers half. It’s a big risk for Leeds financially.”

Raheem Sterling’s pedigree

During his Liverpool and Manchester City days, Sterling was among the Premier League’s elite talents.

He made a £47.5m switch to Chelsea in 2022, but has endured a rather dramatic tumble down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The wideman was loaned to Arsenal last season in a move that failed to breathe life into his career.

His best days are arguably behind him, but he is still a player who could prove a nuisance for Premier League defenders.

Sterling’s experience could also prove useful, with the winger having amassed 396 appearances in England’s top tier.
