The latest injury news ahead of Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 12.
With another international break in the books, it’s time for millions of Fantasy Premier League managers to emerge from their hibernation – and as they gear up for Saturday morning’s Gameweek 12 deadline, they’ll find that there are a staggering number of injuries for them to worry about heading into the weekend.
Gabriel Magalhães, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Kudus, Viktor Gyökeres and Chris Wood are among a host of key FPL players who are either out or doubts, while the likes of Cole Palmer, Rodri and Alexander Isak are among the players closing in on comebacks from recent injuries. We could see an awful lot of free hits being taken this week.
To make life easier, we’ve been keeping track of all of the latest media reports and listening into the Friday pre-match press conferences to bring you all the latest FPL injury news.
Gabriel, Viktor Gyökeres and Antoine Semenyo among injured FPL stars
Gabriel Magalhães: One of the most widely-owned assets in the game, Gabriel suffered a thigh injury during Brazil’s friendly win over Senegal and will be sidelined for at least a month, according to ESPN. Time for FPL players to sell, sadly.
Viktor Gyökeres, Martin Ødegaard, Riccardo Calafiori & Noni Madueke: We’re still waiting on Mikel Arteta’s press conference at the time of writing – although knowing him he may drop the odd misleading update – but all four of these Arsenal players remain doubts for their match against Spurs on Sunday, as do Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz. Calafiori sounds like he should be fine after he was sent home by Italy due to a knock, but the rest we’re rather less sure about as it stands. We’ll update this article after Arteta has offered us some more details later.
Antoine Semenyo: Ghana’s FA announced that their winger had aggravated a “left anterior talo-fibular ligament sprain” - all of which are apparently words - while on international duty and as a result he is a doubt for Bournemouth’s match against West Ham. We’re should be in late fitness test territory, so far as we know, and aren’t looking at a lengthy lay-off, so no need to sell unless you were planning to do so anyway.
Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz & Alisson: The good news for Liverpool fans is that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson is back and ready to start against Nottingham Forest – while Alexander Isak, certainly a striker many players will think about signing at some stage, is also ready to go, although he’s unlikely to play a full 90 minutes after only getting 30 minutes of football for Sweden over the break. The bad news is that Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley are all out for this weekend.
Mohammed Kudus: Kudus missed Spurs’ last two matches with what Thomas Frank simply described as a “knock” and didn’t play for Ghana over the break, but Frank has told the media that he is “very confident” the winger and popular FPL asset will be fit for the North London Derby. We are still awaiting confirmation, however, and Spurs have 11 other players who are either out or doubts – full early team news can be found here.
Could Cole Palmer make his comeback for Gameweek 12?
Cole Palmer: Several media reports had suggested that Palmer was expected to return over the course of the next week, and that he could even be involved from the bench this weekend – but those plans have been scuppered after he sustained a toe injury in an accident at home. Apparently he stubbed it on a door. Enzo Maresca isn’t sure whether or not he’s broken it, but Palmer will be out for this weekend and will also miss next week’s games against Barcelona and Arsenal. When your luck is out…
Enzo Fernández & Pedro Neto: Chelsea got rather better news from Maresca in other departments, however, and the Italian head coach confirmed that both Fernández and Neto are available for selection after injuries ruled them out of international duty.
Chris Wood: The New Zealander has had a rough ride with injuries since the October international break and seems likely to miss another match – although Sean Dyche did tell the media that Wood would undergo another scan before he was definitively ruled out. Some chance he’s involved, but it seems relatively slim.
Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento &Yoane Wissa: Both Gordon and Livramento, neither of whom were involved with the England squad while they recovered from injuries, are “very close” to playing this weekend, according to Eddie Howe – which isn’t especially helpful for FPL purposes, in all truth. Wissa’s comeback will have to wait, sadly, and Howe confirmed that the Congolese forward has yet to return to training.
Benjamin Šeško: The Slovenian striker is a speculative signing quite a few FPL managers have made, but they’ll have to make do without him for a little while – the Slovenian striker will be out for around three weeks with a knee injury sustained before the international break.
Matty Cash &Ezri Konsa: Cash and Konsa are among four Aston Villa players who picked up minor injuries over the course of the break, and the club have yet to confirm their availability for the game against Leeds. Neither issue sounds serious and Cash in particular seems very likely to play, with his Poland manager suggesting that his being rested for a game against Malta was purely a precaution. Konsa is more touch-and-go.
Marc Guéhi: A badly-bruised foot caused the centre-back to miss Crystal Palace’s derby match against Brighton and England’s final World Cup qualifiers, but he is reportedly on track to return for the game against Wolves this weekend. Early indications are that he will play.
Rodri: The Spanish midfielder was a major doubt heading into the weekend and we now know that he’ll miss out on the match against Newcastle, although Pep Guardiola did tell the press that he is “making good steps” towards a return. Just a little while longer, it seems.
Kaoru Mitoma: Mitoma has been yellow or orange flagged for weeks on end while we wait for his endlessly-delayed return from an ankle injury – and he won’t make his comeback this time around, either. Fabian Hürzeler told the media that “everything has healed” but that the Japanese winger was still in pain and that it was “difficult to predict” when he might be involved once more.
