Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu is walking a suspension tightrope against Everton, with the defender one booking away from a ban. The Red Devils welcome David Moyes' men to Old Trafford on Monday evening as domestic action returns after the international break.
And United will be heading into the game in a confident mood having gone five games unbeaten, with Matthijs de Ligt’s late goal against Tottenham nearly a fortnight ago seeing that run extended.
But one star in particular will be trying to be on his best behaviour against the Toffees. Dorgu has already picked up four bookings in the Premier League this season.
The 21-year-old was cautioned against Arsenal on the opening day, while he was also booked against Brentford, Brighton and Tottenham since then. That leaves him in an uneasy position of one more booking taking him to the five yellow-card threshold and seeing him handed a one-match automatic ban.
FA rules dictate that any player to receive five bookings in their side’s opening 19 Premier League games will earn a ban. Meanwhile, players who accumulate 10 yellow cards up to and including matchday 32 in the league will then serve a two-match suspension.
And should Dorgu indeed get booked vs Everton this weekend, that would see him suspended for next weekend’s trip to Crystal Palace.
As it stands, two Premier League stars are already suspended, having been booked on five occasions: Fulham’s Sasa Lukic and West Ham star Lucas Paqueta. There are a host of other players who are close, including Dorgu.

Brentford duo Nathan Collins and Kevin Schade have both been booked four times, while the same can be said of Everton pair James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam. Tyler Adams of Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest’s Nico Williams and Tottenham defender Cristian Romero all find themselves in a similar situation.
Sunderland stars Noah Sadiki and Granit Xhaka have also accumulated four bookings so will be hoping to avoid suspension. Away from disciplinary issues, United boss Ruben Amorim will be hoping to welcome back a host of stars from injury issues on Monday evening.
Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Casemiro could all be fit for the game against Everton, albeit Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko look set to be sidelined. Amorim is expected to give updates on his squad in his press conference on Friday afternoon.
