Jaylen Brown is in his 10th year with the Boston Celtics. The explosive forward was the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. During his time with the franchise, Brown has developed into one of the best two-way forwards in the league. However, despite his undoubted talent, Celtics fans have consistently aired their frustration with his perceived inability to attack with his left hand. During a recent Twitch live stream, Brown finally addressed those criticisms. “I f—–g tore it. Most of the time, it’d be the Celtics fans that’d be saying that, and they know I missed the whole playoffs, etc. And then I re-injured it again that year in the playoffs. I never said anything publicly. I never will because, when I go out there, I give you what I got. I don’t like making excuses. It’s never going to be the same. Some days it feels great. Some days it feels terrible…So it is what it is. It doesn’t bother me. I’ll go left more than y’all’s favorite players.” Jaylen Brown opens up about criticism, the "no left hand" jokes, and the heartbreaking playoff loss to Miami in 2023 that ‘nearly broke him.’“It killed me. His absence from the rotation played a significant role in the Celtics’ elimination in the opening round of the postseason, as they lost 4-1 to the Brooklyn Nets. That early postseason loss had a knock-on effect for the Celtics, too, as it led to Brad Stevens moving into a front-office role and the team hiring Ime Udoka. Two seasons later, Brown was crowned Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP. Still, even now, Celtics fans question Brown’s ability to attack with his left hand. It’s easy to forget that he suffered a serious ligament injury just a few years ago. Nevertheless, Brown is clearly holding himself to a high standard and has hit the ground running this season, as he fills the void left by Jayson Tatum’s absence due to his torn Achilles tendon.
