Josh Allen was left writhing around in agony during a punishing loss against the Texans on Thursday night.

The Bills quarterback was sacked eight times by Houston - the most of any game in his career - as Buffalo's playoff hopes were dented by a 23-19 loss. 'Not fun,' he said. At one point, Allen slammed his helmet and appeared to shout: 'What are we doing?'

The game took its toll, with [referee Adrian Hill needing to be carted off](/sport/nfl/article-15312139/nfl-referee-adrian-hill-injury-bills-texans.html) the field after suffering a serious injury in the second half.

And Bills fans were given a serious scare earlier in the game, when Allen was hit from behind by Texans defensive end Will Anderson.

The quarterback was sent crashing to the turf - landing heavily on his front - and could immediately be seen rolling around in pain.

After receiving attention from the Bills medical team, the quarterback was able to walk to the sidelines.

After the Bills' 23-19 loss on Thursday, Allen revealed that his left shoulder went 'a little numb'

He played the rest of the game but Allen was seen nursing his left arm a number of times. And afterwards, the Bills star revealed his left shoulder went 'a little numb.'

'We're good,' Allen insisted but he will be licking his wounds after a tough night on which he threw two interceptions and no touchdowns.

Allen took consecutive sacks on the Bills' final possession and then, with 24 seconds left the line, he was picked off by Calen Bullock.

Bullock forced three turnovers and his second interception sealed the Texans' 23-19 win at NRG Stadium.

Allen was harassed all night. He threw for 253 yards without a touchdown after accounting for six touchdowns in a win over Tampa Bay last week.

For Houston, Davis Mills threw for 153 yards with two first-half touchdowns to help the Texans (6-5) to their third straight victory with CJ Stroud sidelined by a concussion. Houston is now above .500 for the first time this season.

Bills running back James Cook had 116 yards rushing with a touchdown to give him 1,084 yards this year - his third straight 1,000-yard season.

Ray Davis, meanwhile, returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown to put Buffalo up 16-13. It was Buffalo's first kick return for a touchdown since January 2023 but it could not save the Bills from defeat.
