Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mason Graham has had a solid first season in the NFL to this point, but he's been taking leaps in his development over the past few games, and his performance against the Baltimore Ravens showed his continued rapid improvement in a huge way.
Graham's run defense was his strength coming out of college, and though he's taken his lumps as a rookie, that aspect of his game has translated, though in a different way. At Michigan, he was a dense two-gapping 1-tech, but now that he's slimmed down, he's starting to understand the athletic ability that he possesses and how he can use it to his advantage in the run game.
In the first clip below, Graham is lined up as the 2i shading the inside shoulder of the right guard. Off the snap, he engages with the center and quickly sheds the block, getting around Tyler Linderbaum and getting a hand on Derrick Henry as he runs by. Henry is forced a bit to his left by Graham's penetration, but Devin Bush is unfortunately unable to make the tackle.
