Liverpool are among the clubs who have been linked with Antoine Semenyo heading into the January transfer window.

AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has insisted he’s not concerned about Antoine Semenyo’s release clause.

The forward has been in rampant form so far this season, firing six goals and recording three assists in 11 games for the Cherries. Despite signing a new contract during the summer, it has emerged that Semenyo has a release clause of £65 million that can be activated during the January transfer window.

The Ghana international is admired by several clubs, with Liverpool being one while Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly expressed an interest in the previous window.

Certainly, Bournemouth would not want to lose their talisman midway through the campaign. Ahead of the Cherries’ clash against West Ham, Iraola was asked about the clause at his pre-match press conference (via BBC Sport): "We are in November, Antoine [Semenyo] is our player, he will continue to be our player. In January, you can ask me about the market. But right now, I am not worried about the next market. I am not worried about the situation. In January, we will talk about whatever happened, the players we need."

Semenyo is a doubt for Bournemouth’s game against West Ham because of an ankle injury, which forced him to leave international duty early.

Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo could be because they see him a potential long-term replacement for Mo Salah. The Egypt international is now aged 33 and his contract expires in the summer of 2027. Meanwhile, there are some fans who feel that the Reds did not sufficiently replace Luis Diaz, who was sold to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool full-back Steve Nicol has thrown his weight behind a potential swoop. He said on ESPN: “I don't think there is anyone in the football world who doesn't want this guy. I'll have him today and twice on Sunday.

“They need somebody. If it's Semenyo then fantastic because the guy is absolutely dynamite. If it's not him then, for Liverpool, it's going to have to be somebody else. If Liverpool want to win the title then in the January window, they are going to have to make a move.”
