Enzo Maresca responds to Fabrizio Romano rumours in his press conference

After a long international break it’s great to have press conferences back as we build up to Chelsea’s participation in the early kick off tomorrow.

Enzo Maresca had a few issues to battle through, including questions about the future of one of his backups. Filip Jorgensen has not played much this season, his second as understudy to Robert Sanchez. Without the Conference League appearances he had last year, his game time is massively down and there were rumours from Fabrizio Romano that the Danish Swede would push for a move in January.

Maresca denied having spoken with his keeper in recent times about any desire to leave:

“I spoke with Filip at the beginning of the season and I didn’t speak with Filip in the last days about that,” the Chelsea manager said.

“I think all the players that they don’t play a lot or they don’t use to play, they would like to get more minutes, more games, it’s completely normal. But I didn’t speak with Filip.”

So he’s hardly saying Jorgensen doesn’t want to leave, just that he hasn’t spoken to him about leaving, which is interesting. We don’t expect a January move, but next summer is another question. It looks set to be a long season for Jorgensen.

In other presser news…

Maresca got pretty tense when asked repeatedly about Axel Disasi, the defender who has come in from the cold to train with the first team and help the development squad.

Cole Palmer has been ruled out for the next two weeks with a weird injury that Maresca said came when he stubbed his toe going for a pee in the night. Some aren’t believing that for a minute.
