After Nottingham Forest shocked Liverpool at Anfield in September last season, Reds boss Arne Slot couldn’t get it out of his head for months.

While it was frustrating on an individual 90-minute level, one big reason why Slot kept referring to it was that there were no other defeats to dwell on.

Liverpool’s next loss didn’t occur until a Carabao Cup reverse at Spurs in January, and it was April before they suffered a second defeat in the Premier League.

By contrast, Slot has no end of negatives to focus on this season if he so chooses as the champions have already lost seven times, all of them coming in the last 10 games.

That run has dropped Liverpool to eighth – although, due to the cramped nature of the table, the Reds are only two points behind third-placed Chelsea.

Nottingham Forest have suffered an even bigger run of defeats but are now rebuilding under Sean Dyche, their third manager of the season following Nuno Espirito Santo’s exit and a disastrous spell under Ange Postecoglou.

They went into the international break second from bottom, although on the back of a 3-1 home win over Leeds.

How to follow Liverpool v Nottingham Forest

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest kicks off at 3pm (UK) on Saturday, November 22 at Anfield.

There is no live coverage in the UK due to the 3pm blackout rule but BBC Radio 5 will provide full match commentary.

Liverpool team news

The Reds could welcome back goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the first time since the Brazilian limped off in the 1-0 loss to Galatasaray at the end of September.

Record signing Alexander Isak could kick a ball in a red shirt for the first time in exactly a month.

He featured as a sub for the last half hour of Sweden’s World Cup qualifier away to Switzerland and Slot may also nurse Isak back by starting him on the bench.

Jeremie Frimpong is still absent with a hamstring injury, with Slot’s confirmation that Conor Bradley and Florian Wirtz will be unavailable creating a selection issue at right-back.

Dominik Szoboszlai has frequently played there but Slot might be reluctant to lose his pressing ability in midfield, so has a choice to make with Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Calvin Ramsay his most viable alternatives.

Liverpool expected line-up

(4-2-3-1) Alisson; Szoboszlai, Van Dijk, Konate, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones; Gakpo, Salah; Ekitike

Nottingham Forest team news

Chris Wood is likely to be a key man for Dyche but the New Zealand striker is still doubtful with a knee problem.

The Forest boss will need to check on Callum Hudson-Odoi (thigh), the man whose goal stunned Anfield last season, but the signs look promising.

Oleksandr Zinchenko could also be passed fit in time but the visitors will definitely be without injured duo Douglas Luiz and Ola Aina.

Nottingham Forest expected line-up

(4-2-3-1) Sels; Savona, Murillo, Milenkovic, Williams; Sangare, Anderson; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Hutchinson; Jesus

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest predictions

While this has been a bizarre loss of form for Liverpool, it’s very obvious that the vast majority of their problems have come away from home.

At Anfield, they’ve won four out of five in the Premier League, only losing to Manchester United after hitting the woodwork three times, while they’ve also defeated Atletico Madrid (3-2) and Real Madrid (1-0) in their two Champions League games on Merseyside.

Slot will be desperate to atone for last year’s loss to Forest and Dyche’s men haven’t scored an away goal in two attempts since he took over a month ago.

Liverpool to win to nil – something they’ve managed in their last two home games – is an option, while a Bet Builder of Mo Salah to score anytime (in his 300th PL game) and Both Teams To Score ‘No’ pays around 7/2.

But Forest have liked a penalty this season and Morgan Gibbs-White could capitalise on uncertainty in an unsettled defence by converting from the spot; he’s 19/4 to score anytime.
