West Ham could soon finally realise their interest in Chelsea outcast Axel Disasi.

Disasi has been a long-term target at West Ham, but has never completed a switch to the London Stadium from the Blues.

The Frenchman remained at Chelsea in the summer despite Disasi being linked with a move to West Ham and Aston Villa, among other sides.

West Ham went on to sign Igor Julio on loan from Brighton, but may live to regret that move after a lack of impact from the Brazilian.

Enzo Maresca has now made his feelings clear about Disasi at Stamford Bridge, something that could leave the door open for the Hammers to swoop in.

Disasi could be a star for West Ham, as his versatility could benefit Nuno Espirito Santo in the second half of the season.

Although he didn’t pick up the most glowing reviews with Aston Villa, he was still trusted to feature in a Champions League quarter-final.

Unai Emery doesn’t just utilise anyone, so the faith shown should be seen as a plus, even if Maresca doesn’t want to back the 27-year-old.

The Italian has now spoken out to confirm the situation surrounding the defender after being left out of the Chelsea first-team squad alongside Raheem Sterling.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s trip to face Burnley, the Blues boss has revealed what Disasi did during the international break.

He said: “Disasi and Sterling are both Chelsea players. Axel is helping the second team, helping the young players as he did during the international break.

“*At the moment, he is helping the second team and helping them.*“

Disasi could transform West Ham

There is no real glamour behind the signing of a Chelsea outcast who has just come off the back of a mixed loan spell at Aston Villa.

There is also little glamour surrounding the London Stadium as Nuno continues to face off against a relegation battle.

Adding an experienced head to the backline with the versatility to feature in multiple positions could prove to be a smart move.

For a player who started a World Cup final just three years ago, he won’t want to be “helping the second team” for a side in the Champions League.

West Ham could step in to offer a first-team opportunity across the capital, which could prove a shrewd piece of business.
