Premier League confirm start and end dates for 2026/27 season – 33-day gap

The 2026/27 season will start just 33 days after the World Cup concludes, with the Premier League having now confirmed the dates for the next campaign.

The current season mightn’t have even reached the halfway stage but plans for the next campaign are already locked in, with the Premier League confirming its start and end dates.

When the 2026/27 Premier League season starts

The Premier League have confirmed the 2026/27 campaign will start on August 22, 2026.

The start date is later than normal to accommodate the summer’s World Cup across the US, Canada and Mexico, which concludes on July 19.

There is, therefore, a 33-day gap between the conclusion of the tournament and the start of the new domestic season.

For those not involved in the competition, which includes Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, they will have 89 days between the final day of 2025/26 and the start of the next season.

This gap will also include a pre-season for Liverpool, though players will return late due to their World Cup involvement.

When the 2026/27 Premier League season ends

The season will then conclude on Sunday, May 30, 2027 – all fixtures will kick off simultaneously, as is tradition.

This comes one week prior to the Champions League final, which will be played on Saturday, June 5, 2027, in Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano, where Liverpool won their sixth European Cup.

Normal festive schedule to return in 2026

With Boxing Day falling on a Friday this year, there is only one Premier League match scheduled to align with the conditions of the broadcast deal.

Normal service will resume in 2026, however, as Boxing Day falls on a Saturday. Though, the league has maintained that no two match rounds will take place within 60 hours over Christmas and New Year.

Finally, the 2026/27 season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek match rounds, with further cup competitions scheduled accordingly.

Liverpool will hope to head into the 2026/27 season with a clean bill of health from the World Cup off the back of a successful 2025/26 campaign.
