“Very happy with him” – Enzo Maresca brands surprise Chelsea ace a “main player” ahead of…

Enzo Maresca has praised Malo Gusto for his recent form, and labelled the right back as one of Chelsea’s main players.

Gusto is now in his third season at Chelsea after joining from French side Lyon, and seems to be getting back to his best form.

The France international impressed in his debut campaign under Mauricio Pochettino, but struggled to replicate that form for large parts of last season.

Enzo Maresca praises Malo Gusto

There have been reports Chelsea are looking to offer Gusto a new contract as a reward for his form, even though his current deal runs until 2030.

Gusto scored his first ever professional goal in the win against Wolves, and has impressed at both right back and in midfield this season.

The 22-year-old could find himself in the starting line-up against Burnley on Saturday, and Maresca was full of praise for Gusto ahead of the game.

“We said many times that for us Malo is the main player in the way we want him to play,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“He can play in different positions. You already know that we like players that they can give us, we can be dynamic with them. Malo is one of them and we are very happy with Malo.

“Personally, since I joined the club, I consider Malo for us a main player.”

Positive injury news ahead of Burnley

Despite the injury setback suffered by Cole Palmer, who will now miss the next three games as a result, Maresca did provide positive injury news.
