Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart remains in the concussion protocol and was ruled out for Week 12, interim coach Mike Kafka said Friday.
Dart, who sustained the concussion in a Nov. 9 loss to the Chicago Bears, also sat out the Giants' 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston is to start for the second-consecutive week when the Giants face the Detroit Lions on Sunday in Detroit. Winston completed 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards and an interception in his first start of the season. He also ran for a score and lost a fumble.
Russell Wilson, who was benched for Dart in September, will be Winston's backup.
Dart returned to limited practice earlier this week. The No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft completed 62.7% of his throws for 1,417 yards, 10 scores and three interceptions through the first nine appearances of his NFL career. He also ran for 317 yards and seven scores on 57 carries.
The Giants (2-9) are on a five-game losing streak. They totaled the third-fewest points and yards through the first 11 weeks of the season. They will play the Lions (6-4) at 1 p.m. EST Sunday at Ford Field.
The Lions allowed the fifth-fewest yards in the NFL so far this season. They have the No. 8 pass defense and No. 8 run defense.
