Syracuse, N.Y. —Casey Rogers will get another shot to stick in the professional indoor lacrosse ranks.

Rogers, a former 3-sport start at Westhill High School who spent time with the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants in the National Football League, signed on Friday with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League.

“It’s another opportunity to compete and play lacrosse at the highest level,” said Rogers. “I had to step away from the game to play in college and the NFL. Getting to have a stick in my hand and playing the Creator’s Game and the Medicine Game is a blessing.”

Rogers will now try to make another professional roster. Rogers was released by the Philadelphia Wings after signing with the NLL franchise earlier this month.

Monday is roster cut-down day in the NLL.

The Knighthawks will need to reduce their roster to 21 active players and four practice squad members. The roster currently stands at 28 players.

Rogers, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman, participated in Buffalo Bills training camp and preseason workouts before being cut in September.

Rogers spent some time with the New York Giants practice squad and was on the active roster earlier this season, but was waived in May.

Now he’ll try his hand at lacrosse once again.

Rogers was a former high school lacrosse All-American at Westhill in Syracuse.

Casey is the son of Lelan Rogers, a former assistant lacrosse coach at Syracuse and the current SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse head coach.

In four years of varsity lacrosse at attack, Rogers tallied 193 goals and 44 assists. As a senior, his 62 goals and 17 assists were enough to earn him All-American honors and a spot on the All-CNY team.

Rogers, who also played hockey, graduated from Westhill in 2017.

He played two seasons of college football at Nebraska before entering the transfer portal and playing for Oregon for two seasons.

He signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
