Celtics Writer Doesn’t Believe Former Star Will Return To Team Next Season

The Celtics made a major trade this offseason when they sent forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks.

Porzingis spent two seasons with the Celtics, appearing in 99 games, averaging 19.8 points, seven rebounds and 1.8 blocks. Porzingis also played a significant role in helping Boston win the 2024 NBA Finals.

With Porzingis earning $30 million this season in the final year of his contract, the decision to move on from him made sense for the Celtics, especially with Jayson Tatum likely missing most, if not all, of the season due to a torn Achilles.

However, with Porzingis expected to hit free agency this season, MassLive’s Brian Robb [thinks there is a](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/11/celtics-mailbag-trade-targets-center-reunion-possibilities.html) zero percent chance Porzingis returns to the Celtics next season.

“I’d put Porzingis at zero percent,” Robb wrote on Friday. “He’s going to be looking for something beyond mid-level money and the Celtics aren’t going to be looking to rely on him and his health as he enters his 30s in my mind.”

The Celtics will likely be looking to upgrade the power forward spot next offseason, but it doesn’t sound like Porzingis will be part of Boston’s plans.
