MEDFORD — Catholic Memorial’s Kise Flannery churned outside and the crowd roared, aware of what often happens when the talented quarterback calls his own number.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound senior quarterback raced past the defense, bound for paydirt from 18 yards out. Four plays into the game, the Harvard-bound Flannery had set the tone.

Behind three touchdowns from Flannery, top-seeded Catholic Memorial rolled a 49-0 win over No. 4 Winchester in the Division 2 semifinals at Hormel Stadium. The Knights (9-2) look for their fourth championship in five seasons, drawing No. 2 Bishop Feehan (10-1) for a date at Gillette Stadium.

Flannery finished 4 of 4 passing for 102 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Ramar Thomas through the air, and turned five carries into 58 yards and a pair of scores. Every time he was involved in a play, good things happened for the Knights.

“I like to not put myself in one box,” said Flannery, speaking on his dual-threat abilities. “It just helps to have both of those facets to my game. It’s really important, it allows the offense to be multi-dimensional.”

Even in a complete team effort, Catholic Memorial coach John DiBiaso couldn’t help but gush about his quarterback’s characteristics.

“His leadership, above all, is his best quality,” said DiBiaso. “Physically, he’s gifted, he can throw, he can run. He’s the leader of the team and he leads by example.”

It was all Knights, all the time. All seven drives resulted in touchdowns. Three scores occurred in a span of 4 minutes, 39 seconds in the second quarter, blowing the top off the contest. Defensively, senior David Vadnais and junior Jordan Barros forced fumbles as the Knights’ physicality prevailed.

Sophomore Christian Simmons, senior Jayden Martinez, senior Ibrahim Kaba, and junior Aman Messiah each ran for a score. The Knights’ offensive line got a great push and the backs followed.

A dream season for the Red & Black (10-1) was halted. Senior Gianni DePrimeo, committed to the Naval Academy for lacrosse, turned 25 carries into 138 yards and a fumble.
