Man City 3-0 Liverpool: Match Review

Liverpool injury news on Florian Wirtz, Conor Bradley, Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong.

The international break has taken its toll on Liverpool.

Supporters hoped that the only bit of injury news ahead of the Reds’ return to action would be Alisson Becker once again being available. However, Arne Slot confirmed at his pre-match press conference that Liverpool have two new absentees. Conor Bradley and Florian Wirtz have been ruled out of the clash against Nottingham Forest.

Certainly, it is not ideal for Slot ahead of a run of seven fixtures in 22 days. Slot also admitted that Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined and Joe Gomez missed a training session earlier this week.

Ahead of the Forest clash, here’s a look at when those on the sidelines could return.

Conor Bradley - muscle

The right-back had finally found rhythm after a problem at the start of the season and delivered impressive performances in wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid. However, Bradley sustained a problem during Northern Ireland’s 1-0 win over Luxembourg in which he was replaced at half-time. Slot has admitted he does not expect Bradley to feature in Liverpool’s next seven games.

Potential return: Tottenham (A), Saturday 20 December

Florian Wirtz - muscle

Slot freely offered the information that the attacking midfielder suffered a setback, presumably in Germany’s 6-0 thrashing of Slovakia - in which he recorded two assists. Wirtz’s issue is not as severe as Bradley’s, though, with Slot revealing that he could be back after Forest.

Potential return: PSV Eindhoven (H), Wednesday 26 November.

Jeremie Frimpong - hamstring

The summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen has been unavailable for the previous five games. Slot has admitted that Frimpong is still not close to being back fit and is likely to be back around the same time as Bradley.

Potential return: Brighton (H), Saturday 13 December or Tottenham (A), Saturday 20 December

Alisson Becker - hamstring

The No.1 goalkeeper has been sidelined for the past eight games. However, Alisson is back in training and Slot revealed that he is expected to start against Nottingham Forest.

Potential return: Nottingham Forest (H), Saturday 22 November.

Joe Gomez - unknown

Slot revealed that amid a right-back crisis, Gomez missed training on Thursday. Liverpool did expect him to train on Friday, though.

Potential return: Nottingham Forest (H), Saturday 22 November.

Giovanni Leoni - ACL

The centre-back has been on the treatment table for two months after having surgery. Leoni suffered a cruel injury which brought an end to an impressive debut. He won’t play again this season.

Stefan Bajcetic - hamstring

The midfielder suffered a blow towards the end of his loan spell at Las Palmas last season. Bajectic has surgery during the summer but is still to make an appearance at any level this term. He will need training and potentially games for the under-21s before being ready for the first team.

Potential return: N/A

Jayden Danns - hamstring

The well-regarded teenage striker would have supplemented Slot’s bench several times if he was not on the treatment table. Danns has been unlucky with injuries over the past year.

Potential return: N/A
