HINGHAM — Late in the fourth quarter, with his team up by a touchdown against rival Duxbury, Scituate coach Herb Devine had a decision to make.

It was fourth and 2 from the Duxbury 4, with 1 minute, 8 seconds on the clock, and Devine called timeout to weigh his options. He could kick a field goal, go play-action, or keep it simple and hand the ball to superstar Grayson Foley.

In the end, it wasn’t much of a decision at all. When the game is on the line, that’s when Foley works his magic.

“We said, ‘Hey, let’s give it to our best player and let him go make a play,’ ” Devine said. “He did. That’s football right there.”

Foley, a junior, ran it in with 1:03 remaining to punctuate a 34-21 triumph for the top-seeded Sailors (10-1) Friday night at Hingham High. Scituate is onto its third consecutive Division 4 Super Bowl and will face No. 2 Tewksbury with a repeat in sight.

Foley (28 carries, 137 yards, 2 TDs), sophomore Tyler Stelljes (2 receiving TDs, 1 passing TD), and senior Jonny Donovan (177 passing yards) grew stronger as the game progressed.

Brady Rhinesmith and Ian McNeil helped the No. 4 Dragons (7-4) hang around, but the Sailors hit their stride when it mattered most.

“This team, there’s just something about us,” Donovan said. “We’re super resilient, and we’ve got a lot of heart.”

Scituate deprived Duxbury of its sixth straight trip to Gillette Stadium. The Dragons will now shift their focus to Marshfield on Thanksgiving.

“There are a lot of lessons this year,” said Duxbury coach Matt Landolfi. “We’re not done, but they’re just high-character kids. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Scituate jumped ahead early on a 4-yard run from Foley, then McNeil (160 rushing yards) responded with a 16-yard score. Cole Barberia scored from 13 yards out for Duxbury and Stelljes hauled in a 48-yard catch to tie it at 14.

Shea Tinkham and James Trombly helped Scituate blank Duxbury in the second half, and the Sailors pulled ahead for good on a 91-yard dart from Donovan to Stelljes with 10 seconds left in the third quarter.

Foley took care of the rest, intercepting a pass and finishing the job.

“He’s such a beast,” Donovan said. “He’s one of the best football players I’ve ever seen. I think I can stand by that. He took us to the promised land.”
