Liverpool return to Premier League action with a controversial appointment of officials for the visit of Nottingham Forest.
Arne Slot will be hoping to get Liverpool back on track after a positive upturn in results was brought to a crashing halt against Man City.
An emotional Robertson reflected on being inspired by the thought of Diogo Jota in what was an eventful evening against Denmark. The targets for the season might have been recalibrated due to the early season Premier League form with the visitors to Anfield having their own struggles.
Premier League announce Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest officials
After qualifying for Europe last season, Forest find themselves this season in the midst of a relegation battle. A very public falling out saw Nuno Espirito Santo inevitably sacked and replaced with Ange Postecoglou. The ex-Celtic boss didn’t last long before being appointed by life-long Forest fan Sean Dyche. Any Dyche team is always a tough proposition. What might make the fixture even more fraught with tension is who the Premier League have announced as being the man in the middle.
All eyes will be on Arne Slot when he shakes hands with referee Andy Madley, more of that later. He will be assisted by Adrian Holmes and Simon Long with the fourth official being Adam Herczeg. On VAR duties is James Bell and his assistant VAR is Mark Scholes.
When Arne Slot and Andy Madley fell out
Madley and Slot go way back, well, to December 2024 to be precise and a controversial 3-3 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The Reds boss wasn’t happy with what he had seen in the first half up in the North East and the Dutchman was seen remonstrating with the whistler as the walked down the tunnel to their respective changing rooms.
Amazon Prime presenter Dan Walker provided an update during the broadcast adding context to what fans had seen on their screen: "We do know that Arne Slot went to see him at the break, after 45 minutes, and obviously, Eddie Howe wasn't best pleased about that. I'm sure there's going to be more said and more written and more spoken about that in the future."
Despite Slot and Madley having a conversation in the tunnel, no exchange is believed to have taken place in the referee’s office. That Slot didn’t receive any disciplinary action from the FA also confirms that he managed to toe the line in terms of how he addressed his complaintes. Amazon Prime later issued an apology to Slot, claiming that a production error had been the cause of the misunderstanding. Slot will be hoping that the only words he has to say to Madely this weekend are “Good game ref”.
