Enzo Maresca reveals reason behind Chelsea improvement in key tactical aspect

Enzo Maresca has shared his thoughts as to why Chelsea have made progress in their counter pressing, with it now the best it’s been under the Italian.

Chelsea head to Burnley on Saturday lunchtime looking to make it three Premier League wins in a row and keep the pressure on Arsenal and Manchester City above them.

The Blues currently sit third two points behind City in second, and six points behind early pace setters Arsenal, who they play next Sunday.

Chelsea were dealt a blow before the game as Maresca confirmed Cole Palmer would miss the next three games with a broken toe suffered in an accident at home.

However, there was positive injury news with Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto and Benoit Badiashile all fit and available for selection.

Despite pretty much being without Palmer for the whole season, and missing Liam Delap for a large chunk, Chelsea have made a good start to the campaign.

One thing that’s been noticeable is the improvement in winning the ball back quickly, something Maresca was questioned on ahead of Saturday’s game.

“Probably the time that we spent together,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“We said many times that with more time together we’re going to be better and better. It’s something that we have in the way we want to recover the ball as soon as possible.

“Sometimes it’s possible, sometimes it’s not possible because the other team do different things.

“But for sure it’s something that we are getting better at and we can be even better.”

Chelsea face critical eight day period

The game against Burnley kicks off a run of three huge games in eight days, with Chelsea set to host Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.
