Giants roundup: QB Jaxson Dart ruled out; Winston to start

After a 16-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Lions (6-4) host the New York Giants (2-9) Sunday to begin a three-game home stretch. The Giants look to break a five-game losing streak, while the Lions aim to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time since October 2022.

**Last week:** In a back-and-forth matchup at MetLife Stadium, New York fell to the Green Bay Packers 27-20.

**History:** Detroit leads the all-time series 25-21-1 and has won the past three matchups, including a 31-18 victory in November 2022.

**Storyline to watch:** The Giants will not be getting rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart back this week after he exited in the fourth quarter with a concussion Week 10.

Dart is a physical quarterback who is not afraid to run the ball. Over seven games, he has rushed 55 times for 317 yards and seven touchdowns but has been sacked 21 times and hit more than 40 times.

With this marking his fourth concussion evaluation since the preseason, Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka said he is working with Dart to find a balance between his physicality and health.

"Obviously, you want to show him some examples that he can learn from," Kafka said about Dart adjusting his running style. "He is a competitor and I think he'll continue to learn and grow, but you don't want to put a player like that in a box."

Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston will make his second straight start in Dart's absence.

Winston completed 19-of-29 attempts for 201 yards with no touchdowns, one interception and a 71.2 passer rating last week in the loss to Green Bay. He was sacked twice.

"I have full confidence in him, just like I did last week," Kafka said about Winston starting Sunday. "We'll just keep on carrying on and Jameis will carry the torch for the group."

* The Lions stay at Ford Field to host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, November 27 at 1 p.m for the Annual Thanksgiving Day Classic.

* The Giants travel to Gillette Stadium to face the New England Patriots on Monday, December 1 at 8:15 p.m.
