Haaland one goal from breaking Alan Shearer record

Erling Haaland has been a goalscoring phenomenon ever since he touched down on English shores.

The Manchester City striker won back-to-back Golden Boots in his first two seasons at the Etihad, and has recorded 20+ goals in three consecutive campaigns.

The Norwegian looks set to make that four-in-row having hit 14 goals in the opening 11 games this time around. His next goal will see Haaland reach a century in the Premier League and, barring an unlikely barren run, become the fastest-ever footballer to reach that milestone.

City take on Newcastle United this evening and a goal for Haaland will see him eclipse Alan Shearer’s record, at the former home of the Geordie goal-getter.

Haaland has scored 99 goals in just 108 games in the Premier League and will break Shearer’s 124-game record with 15 games to spare with a goal at St James’ Park.

It would be the latest feat from a footballer whose achievements are already up there with the greats.

Fewest games needed to score 100 Premier League goals:

Alan Shearer – 124

Harry Kane – 141

Sergio Aguero – 147

Thierry Henry – 160
