“The Offense Has Been a Disappointment”: ESPN Names Who’s Under Most Pressure on the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles may be sitting near the top of the NFC standings, but their offensive struggles have become impossible to ignore. ESPN recently identified offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo as the person under the most pressure within the organization, calling the team’s offense a disappointment compared with its championship-level potential.

Despite their 8-2 record, Philadelphia ranks near the bottom of the league in several crucial offensive metrics. The team sits 25th in total yards per game and 28th in passing, averaging fewer than 185 yards through the air. Their third-down efficiency has plummeted to just over 33 percent, a drastic decline from last season’s dominant pace. Red zone success remains a bright spot, but mistakes, penalties, and poor rhythm have made scoring drives look far more difficult than they should for such a talented roster.

Patullo has defended his unit’s approach, insisting that execution, not scheme, has been the problem. He emphasized that when the Eagles stay “on track,” they perform well, but that negative plays and penalties have repeatedly stalled drives. Critics, however, argue that his steady, cautious answers reflect a larger issue: a lack of creativity in a passing game that has grown predictable. A heavy reliance on short hitch routes has made the offense one of the league’s most conservative, leaving playmakers like A.J. Brown visibly frustrated.

The issues extend beyond just playcalling. Quarterback Jalen Hurts has struggled to connect on deeper routes, and the offensive line has committed a string of costly flags that kill momentum. Even with new additions, the offense has yet to reclaim its explosive identity from previous seasons under Shane Steichen’s system. Patullo’s measured tone has done little to calm an impatient fanbase eager to see a more dynamic attack.

ESPN’s NFL Analysis Says Philadelphia Eagles’ Kevin Patullo is Under The Most Pressure This Season

Patullo is projected to face the most pressure in Philadelphia. This is detailed more in an analysis by Tim McManus for ESPN.

Who’s under the most pressure: Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo

The offense has been a disappointment. The Eagles rank 25th in total yards (300.1 per game), 28th in passing (184.9) and 29th in third-down conversion rate (33.87%). They’re averaging 115 rushing yards per game (17th in NFL), compared to 179 in 2024 (second). They are, however, the best red zone offense (75% conversion rate) and have a league-low four giveaways. That, paired with a defense that has played lights-out as of late, has been enough to keep Philly atop the NFC. But the offense has not yet reached its potential, and it falls on the first-year playcaller to help remedy that.

Internally, both Patullo and head coach Nick Sirianni have downplayed talk of a philosophical shift in the offense. Yet the contrast between Philadelphia’s efficient defense and inconsistent offense has made expectations skyrocket for immediate improvement. The fan perception is one of wasted talent, especially when Philly’s roster remains among the most stacked in football.

For now, the Eagles are winning despite their flaws, but the pressure on Patullo grows each week. As ESPN noted, the offense must finally match the team’s elite potential, or the coordinator’s future in Philadelphia may become as uncertain as his unit’s direction on the field.
