Newcastle United v Man City - Joe Buck preview
Newcastle United v Man City: Injury and team news affecting Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola ahead of this evening’s Premier League game.
Newcastle United host Manchester City later today aiming to put their defeats against West Ham and Brentford before the international break firmly behind them. The Magpies entered the weekend of football sat perilously close to the Premier League relegation zone, but know that a performance and result against Pep Guardiola’s side would be a real statement ahead of another busy period of fixtures.
Eddie Howe won’t have Dan Burn at his disposal, though, after his red card last time out. Their visitors, meanwhile, don’t have too many injury concerns to deal with, although they will be without two midfield options for their trip to the north east.
Ahead of a huge matchday on Tyneside, here, we take a look at the latest injury and team news impacting both Newcastle United and Manchester City.
Manchester City injury news v Newcastle United
Mateo Kovacic - out
An ankle injury will keep the Croatian out of action this weekend. Guardiola admitted earlier this month that the midfielder will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Rodri - out
The former Ballon D’Or winner did not join up with the Spain squad during the most recent international break for their matches against Georgia and Turkey. Rodri also didn’t feature in City’s win over Liverpool before the international break after suffering a thigh injury.

Newcastle United injury and suspension news v Manchester City
Dan Burn - out
Burn will serve a one-match ban this weekend after being sent off against Brentford last time out. The Magpies man was shown two yellow cards at the Gtech Community Stadium and won’t feature against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Yoane Wissa - out
Wissa has been sidelined with a PCL injury ever since his move from Brentford on deadline day. He is yet to feature for the Magpies but has been stepping up his recovery process from that injury. It is hoped that he will be able to make his debut for his new club in the coming weeks.
Tino Livramento - doubt
Livramento suffered a knee injury against Arsenal in September and an eight week timescale on his return was pencilled in by the club. The former Southampton man has returned to work on the grass and could return to action this weekend. Howe said on Friday that Livramento was ‘very close’ to a return.
Anthony Gordon - doubt
Gordon suffered a hip injury before the international break, one that ruled him out of Newcastle’s defeat to Brentford as well as England duty. Gordon has since returned to training and could feature on Saturday, although Howe revealed that he would make a ‘late call’ on the winger’s fitness.
Will Osula - out
Osula was withdrawn from Newcastle United’s matchday squad just minutes before they took to the pitch to take part in a warm up ahead of their win over Athletic Club earlier this month.
An ankle injury, one that Osula has been managing over the last few weeks, was given as the reason for his withdrawal on that day. He won’t feature against Manchester City this weekend.
