Jack Grealish's former team-mate lifts lid on why he is flourishing at 'exciting' Everton

Jack Grealish is flourishing because of the freedom being given to him at Everton reckons his former Aston Villa team-mate Philippe Senderos

Jack Grealish will continue to flourish at Everton because of the freedom afforded to him reckons one of his former team-mates. The England international joined the Blues on loan from Manchester City in the summer.

Despite becoming the first £100million English footballer when he moved to City in 2021, and playing a major role in their treble-winning season of 2022/23 when they lifted the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup, Grealish was deemed surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium this summer and left out of the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup by Pep Guardiola.

After making his season-long switch to the Everton, the midfielder was named Premier League Player of the Month for the first time in his career in the week of his 30th birthday, having provided four assists in his first two starts.

He then followed that up by breaking his scoring duck for the club with a dramatic first stoppage-time winner at Hill Dickinson Stadium to seal the 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace to deny the high-flying Eagles from extending their record-breaking unbeaten run to 20 matches.

After the regimented, ultra-possession style under Guardiola, Philippe Senderos, who spent two seasons alongside Grealish at Aston Villa between 2014 and 2016, reckons the Brummie star could be benefitting from a fresh approach by the Mersey waterfront.

The former Switzerland international centre-back, who also made three appearances for Everton after being signed on loan from Arsenal by David Moyes ahead of the 2010 World Cup finals, told AceOdds.com: “There are no bad players. If you play in the Premier League, you are a top player.

“It is all about the environment, and for Jack Grealish, I obviously was with him at Aston Villa, I know he is a top player.

“He needs an environment with more freedom to express himself.

“Maybe the size of Everton and the way things are done there is something he will appreciate.

“He will enjoy it, and Grealish is not a young player anymore; he has experience now. It is an exciting time to be at Everton with a new stadium and the manager coming back.

“The intent to sign players and keep the best players is exciting. Jack will enjoy his football there.”

The Blues return to Premier League action on Monday away to Manchester United (8pm).
