Chelsea player ratings vs Burnley: Unexpected 9/10 shines but two 5/10s struggle

Chelsea moved to second place in the Premier League table following a vital 2-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday afternoon. The Blues had to endure a frustrating 35 minutes before they finally broke through Burnley's solid defence. Pedro Neto headed home from Jamie Gittens' cross, giving the visitors the lead.

As the match neared its conclusion, Enzo Fernandez sealed the deal with a superb play set up by Marc Guiu, sparking jubilation among the travelling fans at Turf Moor. Here are our ratings for the Chelsea players...

Robert Sanchez - 6

Sanchez had a relatively easy afternoon with few shots on target to contend with.

Reece James - 6

James distributed the ball effectively into midfield. He took on a more defensive role as captain this afternoon, a position he seemed quite comfortable with.

He was substituted at half-time but smiled on the touchline to squash any serious injury fears.

Tosin Adarabioyo - 7

Adarabioyo executed a brilliant sliding challenge to thwart Jaidon Anthony in the 12th minute when Chelsea were under pressure. His long pass to Marc Cucurella led to the first goal.

His passing ability is always a bonus when he plays and he also performed well defensively.

Trevoh Chalobah - 6

Chalobah made an excellent intervention seven minutes into the game when Loum Tchaouna posed a threat down Burnley's right flank. His positioning was impeccable and he slid in to block the winger's attempt.

A solid performance overall.

Marc Cucurella - 8

Cucurella was instrumental in setting up the first goal of the match. A long ball from Tosin was expertly controlled by him before he passed it to Gittens.

He was a constant threat in Chelsea's attack. An outstanding performance.

Andrey Santos - 9

Santos showcased some excellent defensive skills. At the 11-minute mark, he tracked back to thwart Anthony, who had a promising chance, and slid in to block the winger's shot.

Santos was a key player for the Blues, making numerous interceptions and tackles, effectively filling the gap left by Moises Caicedo on the bench.

Apart from that, he was cool and collected with the ball. Always looking to split the defence with a pass.

A truly positive display from the Brazilian international. His best in a Chelsea shirt.

Enzo Fernandez - 8

Fernandez frequently sought out Neto on the right flank, who often found himself unmarked against his full-back. His passing was accurate and he was typically involved in all of Chelsea's positive play.

He scored the second goal, thanks largely to Guiu, and celebrated joyously with the travelling Chelsea fans.

Pedro Neto - 8

Neto thought he had set up Jamie Gittens perfectly at the 35-minute mark, but it wasn't long before the Portuguese winger found the back of the net himself. A superb pass from Gittens found his fellow winger, who headed smartly past Martin Dubravka.

He nearly added another on the 63rd minute, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Joao Pedro - 6

The Brazilian was signed for matches like this, against a low-block defence, and he attempted several passes to break through the opposition. However, most of his efforts were unsuccessful, leading to a somewhat frustrating performance from Chelsea's No.20.

Jamie Gittens - 7

This marked the first Premier League start in over two months for the 21-year-old. He nearly scored his first Premier League goal after 35 minutes, only for Kyle Walker to thwart him with an excellent slide tackle.

However, moments later, Gittens delivered a superb cross towards the back post and Neto was there to head home. This marked a first league assist for Gittens, who was substituted later on.

Liam Delap - 5

Delap squandered a promising opportunity nine minutes into the game, where he should have passed to one of his team-mates. Instead, he opted for a long-range shot that went significantly off target.

There appeared to be a growing understanding with Joao Pedro that promises well for the future. He faced a tough challenge against Maxime Esteve and was substituted on the 67th minute.

Benoit Badiashile (on for James 46') - 6

Badiashile came on at half-time. It was good to see him back.

He put in a solid performance. He didn't have much to do as Chelsea controlled the ball better in the second half.

Malo Gusto (on for Delap 67') - 5

Gusto replaced Delap in midfield for the final 23 or so minutes. He gave the ball away needlessly on the 71st minute, but other than that, he did what was required.

Marc Guiu (on for Joao Pedro 75') - 7

He entered the fray with roughly 15 minutes left on the clock and made a significant contribution. His strength, power and intelligence were instrumental in setting up Fernandez's goal.
