Reiss praises valiant performance despite exit from U18 Premier League Cup

Oliver Reiss was thrilled with his side's ability to come back and beat Sheffield United 4-1 despite being 1-0 down at half-time.

City found themselves in an unfamiliar position as they headed into the break a goal down following a counter attack resulting in Siem Abraha’s shot finding it’s way past Ben Vickery.

Although faced with the likelihood of bowing out of the the Premier League Cup, Reiss’ side dug deep and used their quality to propel them forward in the second-half.

With a big 45 minutes ahead of them, the young boys in blue showed why they’re competing at the top of the Under-18 Premier League table every season.

The turn of events swung well in the Blues’ favour thanks to their own hard graft with Teddie Lamb finding our equaliser after he poked the ball over the line, which was followed up by Dexter Oliver to send us ahead.

An abundance of late action saw Lamb add another to secure a brace, before turning provider for Milo Martin.

Despite bowing out of the competition, the City boss expressed praise for the Under-18s side, saying they showed great grit and determination in a difficult encounter.

“First of all, of course [I’m] happy with our game and our performance. Winning 4-1 is not normal against a good opponent,” he said.

“They defended quite well and it was a tough first-half, you can always say you could have scored more because we had a lot of chances, but you cannot complain about a 4-1 at the end.

“So well done from all of our lads and unfortunately at the same time Crystal Palace won 4-0 against Chelsea, it is what it is, so we miss the next stage.

“Just looking on our game today, I’m quite happy with it.”
