Arne Slot spotted using a ‘bizarre’ new tactic for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest

Arne Slot has had plenty to think about and change over the international break.

The Reds have had a tough start to the season and results really need to start picking up, especially as there are no breaks now until March.

First up for them is Nottingham Forest, with Liverpool having a much better start to this game than they have to many others this season, although the result so far makes familiar reading.

Slot has also made a few changes in the hope of an upturn in performance, with the Dutchman even using a new tactic.

Dominik Szoboszlai is playing the Trent Alexander-Arnold role

Liverpool have had their fair share of injuries this season and over the last week, they have two fresh ones to deal with.

One of these is Conor Bradley, with the Northern Irishman out for at least three weeks, meaning that both their right-backs are out injured.

Slot has opted for Dominik Szoboszlai there instead, like he has done many times already this season, with Michael Dawson spotting that the Hungarian has been drifting into midfield more often than not.

“Szoboszlai is playing at right-back, but it’s quite bizarre, when either of the centre halves have the ball, Curtis Jones is slotting into that position and Szoboszlai is having sort of a free role,” he said on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

“We saw that an awful lot with Trent Alexander-Arnold, he went to be a right-back who can play wherever he wants and we’re seeing it a bit with Szoboszlai.”

Former goalkeeper Paul Robinson also noticed Curtis Jones dropping into right-back, believing that it was causing some problems.

“Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones are interchanging between midfield and right-back and it is proving difficult for Nottingham Forest to deal with.” he said as per BBC Sport.

Dominik Szoboszlai is Liverpool’s star player right now

The fact that Slot trusts Szoboszlai in almost any position, as well as giving him the freedom to roam, shows just how integral he is to the team.

He has been one of, if not the best, Liverpool player so far this season, with the 25-year-old showing again during the first-half how key he is.

Jones also deserves a lot of credit too for covering so well, which is something the Reds’ midfielders have not done very well at the start of this season.

The first-half was certainly much better and Slot’s new tactic was a reason for this, but there is still a long way to go, in this game and the rest of the season.
