Nick Saban is one of the greatest football head coaches of all time. He will go down with the names of Vince Lombardi, Bill Belichick, and Bear Bryant. Having someone with that type of pedigree out there is going to entice some NFL teams. Apparently, one is showing interest.

Saban has addressed the recent swirl of rumors about a coaching comeback — and in his own words, his focus remains firmly on retirement.
“There is no opportunity that I know of right now that would entice me to go back to coaching,” Saban said in a Fox News interview. “I enjoy what I’m doing. I did it for 50 years. I loved it. I loved the relationship with the players. I loved the competition. But, you know, it’s another station of life now. I enjoy what I’m doing right now and want to continue to do it … spend more time with my family, my grandchildren, my children. It’s been really, really good.”
Saban also clarified that his return to coaching has never been a constant thought — except for one humorous moment at home. “I never really ever had a thought about getting back into coaching until two days ago, Miss Terry said I had to run the sweeper in the entire downstairs,” he joked. “So while I was running the sweeper, the thought occurred to me, when you were coaching, you had a heck of a lot better job than this. That’s the only time I considered it.”
During that same interview, Saban defended how the media has treated talk of a return. “You know, it is amazing to me that that came up in the media, and the media speaks for you and thinks for you,” he said.
He also reiterated his satisfaction with his life after coaching:
“I am really happy with what I am doing right now. … It’s exciting to still be involved in the game. It’s exciting for me to work with athletic directors, conference commissioners, people in Congress … to preserve the integrity of our game and continue to be able to create opportunities to help young people … which is what we always tried to do as a coach.” (Fox News)
On a lighter note, Saban expressed how retirement has brought a different kind of rhythm:
“When … Miss Terry said I had to run the sweeper … the thought occurred … when you were coaching, you had a heck of a lot better job than this.”
In a more recent appearance, he again shut down rumors about lucrative offers or coaching vacancies. On The Pat McAfee Show, Saban was asked about the massive contracts floating around for coaches. His answer was clear: “I want to stay retired … When she (Miss Terry) hears some of these numbers, she gets interested. And I’m not interested.” (Heartland College Sports)
And when the idea of taking a major job — like at Penn State — came up, Saban was blunt: “No way … I have so much fun working with you. Why would I go do that?” (Heartland College Sports)
Bottom line: Nick Saban continues to deliver a consistent message. Despite all the speculation, he is publicly content in retirement — spending time with family and contributing to college football in other meaningful ways, but not stepping back into the head coaching grind.
