Liverpool fans sent Slot a message loud and clear at Anfield vs Nottingham Forest, he has to listen - opinion

Liverpool supporters have every right to be angry with the current state of affairs after yet another damaging defeat.

The Reds have been in dismal form throughout the autumn, but an easier run of fixtures after the international break looked to offer a reprieve.

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, things have not started that way. A woeful 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at Anfield has kicked things off in the very worst way possible.

If he was being afforded breathing space before, then Arne Slot should now be under mounting pressure to lose his job. Things are getting worse, not better.

On Saturday, Slot made some more questionable decisions with his starting line-up, with the expulsion of Hugo Ekitike perhaps the biggest mistake.

As Ekitike emerged as a second-half substitute, supporters at Anfield handed Slot a clear message about what they thought of his decision regarding the Frenchman.

Liverpool supporters want to see Hugo Ekitike

With Alexander Isak now fit and ready to play, fans had been expecting to see Slot go with a pairing of the Swede and Ekitike on Saturday.

Instead, the Liverpool head coach opted to choose Cody Gakpo on the Liverpool left, with Isak through the middle on his own.

It did not work, with Liverpool’s record signing once again isolated and alone throughout his time on the pitch.

The game was crying out for Ekitike from the moment the Reds went 2-0 down within moments of the second-half.

For whatever reason, Slot chose to wait another 10 minutes before introducing Ekitike. As journalist Lewis Steele noted, the striker’s introduction was greeted with the ‘loudest cheer of the day.’

“Hugo Ekitike on for Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman’s introduction gets the loudest cheer of the day,” Steele posted on X.

With supporters clearly letting him know what they think of Ekitike, Slot must listen and make sure his No. 22 starts more games moving forward.

Arne Slot does not have the answers for Liverpool

As his slight mismanagement of Ekitike goes to show, Slot currently looks to have no idea what supporters want to see.

The Dutchman has appeared out of his depth this season and while other results could perhaps be explained away, Saturday’s against Forest is simply inexcusable.

Slot will get more time to put things right for the Reds, but you do just have to wonder whether they will improve, or simply get worse.

What is clear is that this cannot go on forever. Slot should now be one or two bad results away from being relieved of his duties.
