Barcelona superstar elated after making history on Camp Nou return: ‘This moment is special for …

FC Barcelona celebrated their grand return to the Spotify Camp Nou after more than two years away in spectacular fashion, thrashing Athletic Club 4-0.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres (2), and Fermin Lopez secured the victory for the reigning La Liga champions, who now go on top of the La Liga table, level on points with Real Madrid.

Lewandowski overjoyed

On what was a memorable evening, Lewandowski, who captained the team, made sure to write his name in the history of Barcelona as he became the first goalscorer at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

Just four minutes into the match, the 37-year-old veteran superstar found himself in the Athletic penalty box after some sloppy defending from the hosts, and he made no mistake, burying a left-footed strike into the back of the net.

Having made history, Lewandowski expressed his pride at having become the first player to score a goal at the Catalans’ new stadium.

“We were determined to attack from the start. This moment is special for me, being able to score the first goal at the new Camp Nou. I’m very proud,” said Lewandowski.

Talking about the game and the return to Camp Nou, he remarked: “It’s our first time back at Camp Nou, and it’s a special day for us. We’re very happy and excited to be able to play here.

“We played very well from the start of the match, scoring two goals in the first half and adding three more points. The most important thing is that we’re back here. It’s a different experience when we play here.”

Continuing, he added: “We have a very good team and now we have to look ahead. When we play at Camp Nou, we’re a slightly stronger team than when we play at other stadiums.”

Regarding his own performance on the day, Lewandowski noted: “I had a good feeling from the start. I’m 37 years old, but for me it was a special day.

“To be able to play here again… to score a goal, in the end it was four goals, and I think we can play like today or even better in every match here. We had the game under control from the beginning.”
