Tottenham came close to securing the signing of Eberechi Eze during the summer and had even reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for his transfer. The Lilywhites were determined to bring in a new number ten, and Eze appeared on the verge of joining them before Arsenal intervened and successfully hijacked the move. Since then, the England international has become an important figure for the Gunners, leaving their supporters relieved that the club acted decisively to prevent him from moving to a rival side.
Tottenham’s Missed Opportunity
Although Tottenham eventually signed another player for the number ten role, there is little doubt that they missed out on someone of significant quality when Eze chose not to make the switch. His creativity, technical ability and confidence on the ball have been evident throughout the season, and his influence at Arsenal has grown steadily since his arrival. The Lilywhites will now face him this weekend, a moment that will offer a reminder of how close they came to signing him. It also presents an opportunity for them to measure themselves against a player who was once very much part of their plans.

Thomas Frank Responds Ahead of the Clash
Thomas Frank was asked about missing out on the attacker as he prepared his team for the match. Responding with humour, he said through Football London, “Who is Eze” before adding, “Very good player. He plays for Arsenal, a team we want to beat on Sunday.” His comments reflect both the light-hearted nature of the question and the respect he holds for the attacker’s talent.
Eze has been a fantastic addition for Arsenal, consistently showing the qualities that made him so highly sought after in the first place. While Tottenham may wonder what might have been, Arsenal are benefitting from a player who has fitted seamlessly into their system. There is little doubt that he would have excelled at Tottenham as well, but his decision has strengthened the Gunners instead, setting the stage for an intriguing confrontation this weekend.
