The Packers’ kicking circus has given no sign of slowing down. The chaos continued this week with Matt LaFleur’s comments Friday, revealing further uncertainty on who will take the field in Week 12. Will Brandon McManus return? Will it be Lucas Havrisik again, after missing two extra points in New York? Once again, LaFleur was unable to clarify the situation less than 48 hours before kickoff.
More murkiness on the kicking front ahead of key matchup with Vikings
McManus’ lingering quad injury is obviously not LaFleur’s fault. He can’t give a straight answer if there isn’t a straight answer to be had. Either McManus will be ready to go, or he won’t.
Green Bay Packers place kicker Brandon McManus, left, talks with former NFL quarterback turned broadcaster Tom Brady before their game against the Chicago Bears Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Solider Field in Chicago, Illinois.
LaFleur said McManus kicked on Thursday and was scheduled for another session today. “He had a really good day,” LaFleur said of Thursday’s work.
What has frustrated fans is the seeming lack of communication between LaFleur and his kickers the resulting confusion. McManus being ruled out last week didn’t help matters. Did he aggravate the injury during practice? Why was he kicking – and missing – in previous games if the injury was bad enough to hold him out in Week 11?
More than anything, the absence of answers is what’s grinding the gears of Packers faithful who just want to know what’s going on.
Well, no one knows what’s going on this week, either, as McManus continues to progress through his injury with Havrisik waiting in the wings if necessary. Asked about the implications of late-week uncertainty, LaFleur could only offer more of the same.

“I think we’ve done enough through this situation, and you know we got two guys that we believe in. You just deal with it. I don’t know how else to put it, other than you just adjust, adapt, and make the best of whatever the situation may be.”
