Arne Slot made some bold changes after a long international break.
The Reds went into the break off the back of a 3-0 loss to Man City, with fans thinking it cannot get much worse than that.
However, they were wrong as this was followed up by another 3-0 defeat, this time to Nottingham Forest, who were in the relegation zone, at Anfield.

Slot certainly raised a few eyebrows with his team selection, with one of the big ones being to start Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back due to the injuries to Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley.
Although the Hungarian has performed well there before, many were wondering why Joe Gomez did not play instead, but Slot has cleared up exactly why.

Joe Gomez didn’t train all week
There is no denying Gomez’s quality as he has proven in the past how good he is at both centre-back and right-back, but his injury record is incredibly bad.
He had been fit for a fair amount of time by his standards, though, and as it was the international break, many just assumed he was training in the meantime.
However, Slot confirmed in his post-match press conference that Gomez has actually not trained once all week, which is why he stayed on the bench.

“We had to start the game with a midfielder at right back because both of our fullbacks are injured,” he said.

“Joe Gomez can also play there but he has not trained the whole week. He was not fully ready to start.”
Szoboszlai still did well, but he was much more influential when drifting into the middle, with his absence in this area a big miss.
Liverpool might need to cut their losses on Joe Gomez
As mentioned, every Liverpool fan knows Gomez is a good player, he is just never able to show it, especially when they need him most.
He might be their longest-serving player, joining in 2015, but now might be the time to sell him on for a little bit of money.
He has been a great servant, but at 28 and having almost two years left on his current deal, this is their best chance to sell him on.
AC Milan were one of the clubs interested and it would be no surprise to see him a target again, although Liverpool should probably wait until the summer to sell him due to their lack of options already.
