Andoni Iraola is ‘not worried’ about Antoine Semenyo’s future amid reports of big links to the big six sides ahead of January.
Antoine Semenyo was the big topic of discussion over the past few days in the media following David Ornstein’s reveal of a £65 million release clause in his Bournemouth contract. The Ghanaian international is one of the prolific attackers in the Premier League this season, with six goals and three assists to his name, as several sides are angling for a move.
Bournemouth may be powerless to prevent Semenyo from leaving if one of the interested parties triggers the clause. The terms are reportedly around £60 million in fixed fees with a further £5 million in add-ons, although suitors must trigger the clause within a set time frame to allow the Cherries to find a replacement.
Moreover, his release clause further reduces in the summer as Bournemouth are destined to lose him amid interest from some of the top teams in the Premier League. Losing Semenyo would be a massive blow to the Cherries, who are angling to qualify for a European competition next summer.
Without the London-born attacker in the team, their chances of a European finish could diminish their chances, although the team signing him could get a massive player for a relatively modest price comparatively. Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City all ponder triggering the release clause for the £60 million-rated Premier League star.
Without any surprises, Andoni Iraola was asked about Semenyo’s future during his press conference as the Spanish manager insisted he’s not worried about the forward’s situation. His comments that appeared on Sky Sports stated the Bournemouth boss will look at the situation later rather than in the current moment.
Iraola said, “We are in November, and Antoine is our player. He will continue being our player. In January, you can ask me about the market. For now, I am not worried about the next market. It is November, and I am more worried about the situation of players for tomorrow. In January, we will talk about whatever happens.”
As things stand, all eyes will be on Semenyo and whether he decides to leave Bournemouth six months after signing a new deal. Liverpool are currently leading the race for the £60 million-rated attacker as per widespread reports, but there is always a twist waiting to happen, considering the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham are also keen.
Semenyo is widely known as an Arsenal fan, which could turn the tables if the Gunners decided to enter the race. For now, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are the ones angling for a move, as there is a big chance for Semenyo to leave in the January window if the release clause is triggered within the required time frame.
