Everton plot raid on Europa League club for £16,000-a-week striker

Everton are considering an approach for Santiago Castro to solve their striker issues, with Bologna set to demand £31 million.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Santiago Castro is emerging as a target for Everton ahead of the January window. The Toffees are keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old Argentine striker, with Bologna set to demand £31 million to let him leave midway through the season.

Everton are expected to be active around the January transfer window, with David Moyes keen on bolstering several areas. The Toffees boss is keen to add a new striker to the mix following the below-par displays of Beto and summer arrival Thierno Barry.

Both those centre-forwards have struggled to nail down a place with their performances, as the Toffees continue to rely on wingers Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye for the goals. Hence, Moyes would like a new striker option in place, as they are now keen on at least two prominent names in the market.

Irish hero Troy Parrott is a target, and is reportedly an Evertonian, with the Toffees now set to explore a move after his superb performances at International level. The other name on their list is Santiago Castro, the Bologna hotshot in tremendous form at the moment.

The 21-year-old Argentine attacker has four goals in Serie A this season, which has attracted some suitors towards him, including Chelsea, who are keeping close tabs. Everton could have a chance if they were to make a firm approach and tempt the striker into moving. Bologna will reportedly demand at least £31 million to let him leave, as the Toffees may find themselves in a good position to pay up.

Everton monitoring Santiago Castro’s contract situation

Everton are closely monitoring Castro’s situation at Bologna, considering the striker is only on £16,000-a-week wages. His current deal expires only in 2028, although Bologna are planning to offer him a new deal with a significant pay rise in an effort to recognise his rise in stature with the team.

Should the Serie A side fail to agree on fresh terms before January, Everton could make a concerted proposal with a lucrative contract for the £16,000-a-week striker. That could tempt Santiago Castro to make the switch to the Premier League, although for now these links could be seen only as a rumour of sorts.
