Mystery as Matheus Cunha pulled out of planned appearance in Altrincham amid training claim

Matheus Cunha’s availability for Manchester United’s match against Everton is in doubt after the forward pulled out of an appearance at a Christmas event in Altrincham.

Manchester United host Everton in the Premier League on Monday night, hoping to stretch an unbeaten run to six matches.

It bodes well that United did the double over Everton last season, as well as the fact that Ruben Amorim’s team has a decent record at home.

One factor behind that is having key players available and not losing stars to frequent injuries. This was a huge issue under Erik ten Hag, but it seems like the current coaching staff is dealing better with the challenges facing player welfare.

It also helps that United are playing one game most weeks, as opposed to having midweek fixtures in Europe.

Amorim confirmed that there are three potential absentees when United host Everton, including Harry Maguire, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo.

Lisandro Martinez could be available as he nears a return to action, and Mainoo is aiming to return after a recent knock.

Matheus Cunha misses Christmas event in Altrincham

United star Matheus Cunha was scheduled to attend an event to turn on the Christmas lights in Altrincham on Saturday night, but the organisers announced this evening that he had to pull out “due to medical reasons” following “an accident in training”.

Cunha was due to attend the event alongside Coronation Street actor Sam Aston, who plays the role of Chesney, just two days before United’s next Premier League match.

However, Amorim won’t be speaking to the press again until Monday night, so United fans are currently out of the loop as to whether the Brazil international will be available against Everton.

United In Focus contacted United for comment, but at this point, it is only understood that the appearance was not arranged through the club.

Cunha has scored one goal for United since his summer move from Wolves.

It would be a huge blow for Amorim if Cunha misses the game against Everton, especially with Sesko recently sustaining an injury that will keep him out of action for a few weeks.

If Cunha is not available to face Everton, it would force Amorim into a major reshuffle. It could also increase Joshua Zirkzee’s chance of making his first start of the season.

Matheus Cunha missed one game through injury this season

Cunha has thus far been injured once since joining United in the summer.

The Brazil forward missed United’s 3-0 defeat against Man City in September.

Are you confident Manchester United will beat Everton?

Nothing has been confirmed yet, other than the announcement that Cunha was to miss the event in Altrincham.

Hopefully, Cunha will be fit and ready to take on Everton on Monday night.
