Liverpool in good position to sign England defender

Liverpool’s woeful run in the Premier League continued on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White earned Forest a memorable victory on Merseyside, inflicting a sixth defeat in seven league games on Arne Slot’s side.

The Reds now sit 11th in the Premier League table, despite spending in excess of £400 million on new signings over the summer.

Next up for the defending Premier League champions is a game against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, before they travel to face West Ham United.

In the meantime, however, it appears that Liverpool are in a commanding position in the race to sign an England international.

As per CaughtOffside, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi remains completely sold on the idea of joining Liverpool.

The England international came close to joining the Reds over the summer, before the proposed switch collapsed on deadline day.

Guehi’s contract with the Eagles is set to expire at the end of the current season, and the report claims that the player has no intention of signing a new deal at Selhurst Park.

Liverpool themselves could lose an important player this summer, with centre-back Ibrahima Konate expected to depart Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Despite Liverpool being keen to keep hold of the player and willing to offer a generous package, it appears that Konate is likely to depart and Guehi could therefore prove to be his replacement.

Since joining Palace from Chelsea back in 2021, having impressed while on loan at Championship side Swansea City.

He has since made more than 170 appearances for the South London club across all competitions, but he is set to leave Palace at the end of the season.
