Bills WR Keon Coleman Expected To Play Against Steelers

The Buffalo Bills may be getting one of their top wide receivers back in action against the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 13 matchup. Second-year wideout Keon Coleman missed Weeks 11 and 12 as a healthy scratch but may be returning in time for Buffalo’s trip to Pittsburgh, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.

On X, Wolfe noted that the Bills’ short week of preparation heading into Thursday Night Football in Houston played a factor in Coleman’s healthy scratch extending an extra week. He reported that “if things go well [Coleman] could return back to game action next week vs. Steelers.”

Bills WR Keon Coleman is a healthy scratch for 2nd straight week tonight vs. Texans.

I’m told short week played a factor for this additional inactive week decision, and if things go well he could return back to game action next week vs. Steelers.

Coleman was initially a healthy inactive for Buffalo’s Week 11 home victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he was late for a team meeting on that Friday. This week, Coleman was inactive again for the Bills’ Thursday night loss to the Texans in Houston.

Based on Wolfe’s intel, the schedule was a factor in Coleman missing the game in Houston. With a Thursday Night game, NFL teams typically only have one day of practice to prepare for that week’s matchup. The Bills likely felt that it wasn’t enough time for Coleman to get up to speed after sitting out the week prior.

The Bills will now have the extra time extended to teams that play on Thursday to prepare for next week’s matchup in Pittsburgh, and it makes sense that Coleman will get a chance to return to the lineup.

Coleman, whom the Bills made the top pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has 32 receptions for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. He has flashed at times during his NFL career, but for the most part, Buffalo has used a committee approach in its wide receiver room, with no one emerging as a singular threat for QB Josh Allen. Khalil Shakir and Joshua Palmer are the other wide receivers in the starting rotation with Coleman, and tight end Dalton Kincaid has been productive when healthy.

With the Bills coming off a loss and now two games behind New England for the lead in the AFC North, next week’s game will be just as crucial for Buffalo as it is for Pittsburgh. Buffalo will likely be missing some key players who were banged up in the loss at Houston. Right tackle Spencer Brown and linebacker Terrel Bernard both suffered injuries that are expected to sideline them, and cornerback Maxwell Hairston will have to clear the concussion protocol.

The expected return of Keon Coleman to the lineup should be a boost for the Bills’ offense and QB Josh Allen, who is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Houston. The Steelers will need to first take care of business with the Chicago Bears this week but next week could be matching up with a young receiver with a chip on his shoulder after missing multiple games and an offense that, as a whole, is looking to get back on track.
