Cundy calls out 'elephant in the room' as Isak makes unwanted Liverpool history

Jason Cundy has suggested there needs to be a serious discussion on Arne Slot and his tenure at Liverpool.

The reigning Premier League champions were beaten 3-0 at home by Nottingham Forest in what is their sixth top flight defeat this season.

Jason Cundy rages about Liverpool's current form!

Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White all netted for Forest to pile further misery on Liverpool's title defence.

It's the first time since August 2015 that they have conceded three or more goals and not scored during a Premier League match at Anfield.

And despite winning the title in his first season at Liverpool, head coach Slot has been criticised following another poor result.

Reacting to the defeat on talkSPORT's GameDay Phone-In, Cundy said: "These Liverpool fans get brought back down to earth.

What did Jason Cundy say about Liverpool's performance?

"I said you weren’t great last season, you were good - deserved the title, but now we're seeing what Arne Slot's Liverpool looks like.

"The elephant in the room is, his tenure at Liverpool needs to be spoken about.

"It's not about last season, they're 11th, they look a shadow of any team under Klopp. Last season they weren’t even that great.

"The Premier League was poor and Arsenal's attack on the title was poor, City's was dreadful.

"We are looking at a side now that are floundering. They are in deep water and one of their armbands have burst, they can't swim.

"This is the worst result of their season. After an international break you can regather, but they're playing Forest and Sean Dyche has rocked up there and pulled their pants down.

"This is a terrible result. It's up to them whether they admit it or not, but we are now talking about what the future looks like for Slot.

"They (fans) can phone up and say they want to keep him, but the truth is this result is absolutely appalling, and the performance.

"You cannot dress it up, this is a disaster of a season and there are no signs of it getting any better, they've lost half of their games, the red flags are everywhere.

"Even when they were winning they were poor. Now they're losing, they're worse.

"Liverpool last season weren't great. They weren't, they were nowhere near a great side, you look at all the great champions and the team last season weren't great."

Alexander Isak blanks once again

The British record £125million summer signing of Alexander Isak left many predicting Liverpool to win back-to-back titles this season.

However, the former Newcastle United man has not yet lived up to his huge price tag, with just one goal coming in his nine appearances.

Isak started against Forest and was substituted in the 68th minute as Liverpool trailed by two goals.

It was his fourth league start for the Reds, and all four of them have ended in defeat.

Isak has become the first Liverpool player in Premier League history to lose in all of his opening four starts.

Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United and now Forest have won all three points when the Swede appeared from the off.

The 26-year-old had just one shot all game against Forest, but it didn't hit the target.

Liverpool title challenge all but over

With 12 matches played, Liverpool are eight points behind league leaders Arsenal.

This gap will increase to 11 should the Gunners beat their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

And even though there are still two thirds of the season left to go, it looks highly unlikely that Liverpool will retain their crown.
