Newcastle United beat Manchester City 2-1 at St James’ Park through two Harvey Barnes goals.
Eddie Howe’s side went into the game on the back of consecutive defeats away to West Ham United and Brentford, which left them lingering above the Premier League relegation places.
But the Magpies responded in perfect fashion to earn only their second Premier League win over Man City in 20 years.
Harvey Barnes scored a brace, first opening the scoring in the 63rd minute before putting Newcastle in front again two minutes after Ruben Dias equalised for the visitors.
For Barnes’ winner, Bruno Guimaraes headed the ball onto the crossbar before the winger turned up the follow-up. VAR checked for an offside on Guimaraes but the goal was awarded after a lengthy check.

But what Guardiola said to the Brazilian had nothing to do with his footballing ability, rather what happened with Donnarumma for the second goal.
Guardiola said: “Yeah, I asked what what happened with Gigi and him. And yeah, everything is fine.”
"It happened in the Bournemouth game and it happened today again,” Guardiola added. “It is what it is after VAR decided. They know perfectly."
Reflecting on the result, Guardiola added: "Newcastle is a top side, top players, top manager so unfortunately tonight we could not make the momentum that we had. It was entertaining game, we both had chances and then there was a momentum shift and ultimately we couldn't win.
"Both keepers were good and after we missed chances. It was an entertaining game with many chances. We were closer in the beginning."
Eddie Howe reflects on Newcastle United’s win over Man City
Howe said: “We are delighted to win today. I think the heart, endeavour and attitude of our performance today, when you compare it to Brentford when we looked tired and flat, that was a big upturn in terms of the normal way we play. That will give us a massive lift in what is a tough Premier League season this year. That should give us a lift for the games to come.
"Whatever strategy you pick, Manchester City will have chances against that. In the first 30 seconds, Harvey has a chance to score and you know you are on a knife edge like we were at times today. It is hard to keep Haaland quiet for 98 minutes."
