New York improved to 1-1 on its five-game road swing with a 113-111 victory on Thursday night over the Dallas Mavericks. Jalen Brunson returned from a two-game absence with a sprained ankle to score 28 points, and Landry Shamet hit two key 3-pointers in the final 1:02 and drew a game-sealing charging foul in the final second. Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds while Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart each scored 16 points, with Hart adding 10 rebounds. Brunson is listed as probable for Saturday with a hamstring issue, while OG Anunoby (hamstring) remains out.
The Magic needed no such drama on Thursday night for their second straight win as they blew out the visiting LA Clippers 129-101. Playing without Paolo Banchero (groin) for the fourth straight game, Orlando got 23 points and seven assists from Jalen Suggs while Franz Wagner dropped 20 points and Tristan da Silva finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Banchero is also out for Saturday's game.
Orlando won the first meeting between the teams in New York on Nov. 12, taking a 124-107 decision. Brunson leads the Knicks with averages of 28.0 points and 6.4 assists, while Towns gets 21.5 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Wagner is the Magic's top scorer at 22.6 points per game, Suggs averages 13.4 points and 4.9 assists, and Wendell Carter Jr. gets 12.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per outing.
