The Bears are down their top three linebackers on Sunday with Edmunds, T.J. Edwards and Noah Sewell all ruled out with injuries, so Carl Jones Jr. gets the nod from the practice squad. He’s appeared in seven games with Chicago this season, totaling 10 tackles. He signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA following the 2024 NFL Draft.
Brown appeared in Chicago’s Week 9 win over the Cincinnati Bengals with RB D’Andre Swift inactive. Against Cincinnati, Brown had five carries for 37 yards and a touchdown. He figures to work into Chicago’s backfield behind Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai on Sunday. Brown was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of UCLA by the Las Vegas Raiders, and spent two seasons with the Raiders before signing with the Seattle Seahawks last season, spending most of the season on their practice squad.
He signed with the Bears in August. Despite appearing in six games with the Raiders in 2022, his five carries in Week 9 were the first of his NFL career.
Jones hasn’t logged a defensive snap for Chicago this season. In his seven games, all of his snaps have come on special teams, with 117 special teams snaps. While Noah Sewell plays a lot of special teams, Chicago may need Jones to play defensive snaps to make up for the loss of their top three linebackers.
In addition to Edmunds, a key piece of the Bears’ defense, and the other linebackers, the Bears also did not activate CBs Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon off IR despite both being full participants in practice on Friday.
