(PHOTOS) 17 Forever: Josh Allen honored with jersey retirement ceremony

LARAMIE, Wyo. — ‘MVP’s aren’t found, they’re forged’ is what the University of Wyoming said in a Super Bowl advertisement commemorating Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s 2024 MVP award earlier this year. As the former Cowboy enters the hallowed halls of NFL legend, he too enters Wyoming Cowboys history as the first Wyoming player to have his jersey number retired.

Allen traveled to Laramie Saturday to speak with the team and to have his number officially retired in a halftime ceremony during the Pokes’ game versus Nevada. Every step along the turf, which he ruled as a Poke from 2015 to 2017, elicited more and more cheers from the home crowd.

Surrounded by his parents and former Wyoming Head Coach Craig Bohl, with wife Hailee Steinfeld and current teammates watching from a field house balcony, Allen received a framed jersey and watched as ‘#17 Josh Allen’ was uncovered nearby.

“I’m so honored and blessed to represent this university in this beautiful state. I love you guys. Thank you, God bless, go Pokes,” Allen said. “And it will always suck to be a CSU Ram.”

The MVP also spent some time along the sidelines catching up with fans and signing merchandise.
