Alabama alumnus tops NFL’s fines list for the second straight week

For the second week in a row, the NFL player paying the most to the league in fines for on-the-field transgressions is an Alabama alumnus.

Washington Commanders linebacker Ale Kaho got nicked $46,371 for unnecessary roughness/use of helmet for Week 10’s biggest fine.

The NFL announced its fines for Week 11 on Saturday, and Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick has the biggest tab at $29,561.

Three other former Crimson Tide players were fined by the league this week, including Seattle Seahawks nose tackle Jarran Reed, who was not even in uniform.

But even though Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch picked up his fourth fine of 2025 after being the most fined player of 2024, the Alabama group isn’t keeping pace with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens.

The NFL fined the former Hoover High School star $26,085 for unsportsmanlike conduct/use of prop to run Pickens’ total for the 2025 season to five fines for $84,049.

Pickens got an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty after catching a 37-yard touchdown pass during Dallas’ 33-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. To celebrate the score, Pickens leaped to straddle and hug the stanchion supporting the goalposts, drawing a penalty.

It wasn’t an original celebration or penalty. The night before, former Alabama All-American Jameson Williams celebrated a 40-yard touchdown reception in the Lions’ 16-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the same way. The NFL fined Williams $14,491.

Branch received a $11,599 fine for unnecessary roughness/use of helmet after being penalized for a third-quarter tackle against the Eagles. Branch has been fined four times for $46,383 this season.

The NFL fined Fitzpatrick $17,389 for a hip-drop tackle of running back Chris Rodriguez in the second quarter and $12,172 for a low block in the first quarter of Miami’s 16-13 overtime victory against Washington on Sunday.

The former Alabama All-American drew a penalty for the low block, but there was no flag on the hip-drop tackle.

Reed has missed the past two games after going on injured reserve with a wrist injury. The NFL fined the defensive lineman $14,491 for unsportsmanlike conduct for bumping Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Byron Young on the sideline after a play in the Seahawks’ 21-19 loss on Sunday.

Among the other 23 fines handed out by the NFL for Week 11 was $6,789 for Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Colby Wooden. The former Auburn standout got a face-mask penalty in the fourth quarter of the Packers’ 27-20 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday.

The NFL uses a collectively bargained schedule of fines to determine the amount of monetary punishment. The NFL’s Schedule of Fines also comes with aggravating and mitigating factors that can affect the size of a fine.
