Sean Dyche admitted to being ‘surprised’ at Igor Jesus having a goal chalked off during Saturday’s 3-0 win at Liverpool - but it was a different refereeing decision that really wound up the Nottingham Forest head coach.
Jesus thought he had broken his Premier League duck for the Reds when he fired past Alisson two minutes after Murillo’s 33rd-minute opener at Anfield. But his celebrations were swiftly brought to a halt as referee Andy Madley ruled handball against the Brazilian and VAR ratified the call.
In the end, it mattered little as the visitors claimed a comfortable victory regardless thanks to Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White netting after the break. Nevertheless, assistant coach Ian Woan was booked in the aftermath of the Jesus decision for making his point - and that yellow card did not go down well with Dyche.
Asked about the forward’s strike being ruled out, the Reds boss said: "I was surprised. I was a long way from the point of action, but when I saw it back I was very surprised.
"We will ask for an explanation. I don't know who has seen what, but I was very surprised.
"I was equally surprised, I've got to be honest - and I am going to have a gripe - that my assistant got booked in a technical area that's only big enough for us to work in. How do you work?”
He added: "There are certain grounds, where there is only so much room you can go in. Where are you meant to work? We are professional people and they are questioning how many people are standing on the side.

"You know you can't talk in front of your bench now about the players that are out there? It is ridiculous.
"Where are you meant to go and do your work? We are working. I can't understand all that.
"It is a load of nonsense for me. Just let us work.
"You get people booked for nothing. Just let us get on with what we are doing.

“Surely fans are not worried whether two coaches stand on the sidelines chatting about some players. Surely they are not that worried. Goodness me. Come on."
Explaining the Jesus decision, the Premier League Match Centre posted on X: “#LIVNFO – 35’ The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Jesus accidentally handled the ball before scoring.”
