**Man City manager Pep Guardiola says there is no reason why his team cannot compete on multiple fronts this season.**
Speaking before the match against Newcastle on Saturday, Guardiola said that if the first-team squad remains relatively free of injuries, he feels he has the depth to replicate the treble year:
“If we continue with the squad fit, we’ll compete every single game and every single competition. I don’t have any doubts about that. Last season we were not even going to compete in one competition.”
It’s a bullish claim from Guardiola, but he is clearly confident in this group of players.
Injuries have been less frequent than last campaign
---------------------------------------------------
There were times during the 2024/25 season when there were more than ten members of the first-team squad on the treatment table. At the moment, there are only two.
Rodri was not available for the Newcastle game but there is hope he will be ready to play very soon. Mateo Kovacic has been ruled out of contention for several months, having suffered complications from an Achilles injury. What do the bookies say about another Man City treble?
------------------------------------------------------
At the moment, bookmakers have placed odds of around 100/1 for Guardiola’s side to repeat their feat from 2023.
That is not at all surprising, considering that we are still under a third of the way through the season. A lot will need to go in the Cityzens’ favour for such an achievement to become realistic.
The FA Cup third round will be played early in the New Year, while the Champions League has not progressed beyond the group stage yet. Combined with Arsenal being top of the Premier League table, the prospect of a treble happening again is a distant hope.
