Leeds ready to throw Sterling a lifeline

Leeds United are ready to rescue Raheem Sterling from his exile as a member of Chelsea’s so-called bomb squad.

The 30-year old has yet to play a single minute of football this season after Enzo Maresca told him that he was not part of his plans. Instead, he has been made to train alone, apart from the rest of the first-team squad, often at unsociable hours in the evening.

Unable to find a new club in the summer transfer window, he remains one of the highest earners at Stamford Bridge.

But now Leeds United, who have been tracking his situation, and are in need or more attacking options, as they battle to preserve their Premier League status, are ready to make their move for him. No Leeds player has scored more than twice this season.

Although Sterling has previously indicated that he would prefer to stay in London for family reasons, Leeds are hoping to persuade him that the prospect of first-team football would be enough to lure him to Elland Road.
